Ecological products and technologies to win Nordic market
The aim of the environment panel is to show the ecological future of consumer goods and production.
Ecological certificates and brands are gaining consumer support in the Nordic countries. In order to enter the markets, Baltic companies must know and use the same standards.
We will take a look of Nordic Ecolabel, ISO14001 certificate and discuss ways to achieve green production.
Panel moderator is Olavi Tammemäe, Deputy Secretary General on Environmental Management in Estonian Ministry of the Environment.
Born in the 13th January 1954 in Pärnu, Estonia. Olavi Tammemäe graduated from Tartu University as an engineering geologist in 1977. He obtained his second Master´s Degree in Technical Sciences from Tallinn Technical University in 2003 and the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering at the same University in 2008.
From 1977 to 1983 he worked as research engineer at the Design Institute “EKE Project”, Tartu Department. From 1983 to 1991 he was Head of Sector and Deputy Head of Geotechnical Department in the State Institute of Soil Investigations. From 1991 he started to work for the Ministry of Environment (MoE) as a Director of the Department of Environmental Impact Assessment – up to 1996. From 1997 to 1998 he was Director General of the Nature Protection Department of the MoE. From 1998 to 2003 he was Director of Stockholm Environment Institute – Tallinn Centre (SEI-Tallinn).
From 2004 to 2007 he was Deputy Minister of the MoE. From 2007 to 2009 Olavi Tammemäe was Director General of the INTOSAI WGEA Secretariat at the National Audit Office of Estonia. Since the end of 2009 he is back again in the Ministry of Environment – as a Deputy Secretary General he is responsible for the environmental management related issues, environmental taxation, risk management in environmental sector and mineral resources.

“ISO 14001 certification as a step toward cleaner future”
Born in Tallinn on 3rd of July 1961. On 1980 finished Tallinn Marine College as a ship engineer. Worked in different fishing factories until 1992. After that joined the Estonian Border Guard where started as a patrol boat engineer. From March until June 1998 studied in United States where he finished different training courses provided by the US Coast Guard. In 2002 graduated United States Naval Staff College. Promoted up to senior officer of the Border Guard Marine Department and finished this career in 2005.
Since 2005 has Feliks worked in Lloyd’s Register EMEA Eesti filiaal (LRQA – Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance), which is a member of the Lloyd’s Register Group, who is celebrating its 250 anniversary this year.
In 2007 graduated Business Law faculty in the I-Studium in Tallinn. My diploma work was wrote on the topic „Implementing of the Quality Management Systems in the Local Authorities” By now he is a Lead Assessor for Quality and Environmental Management Systems and an assessor for Occupational Health and Safety Management System. In addition he is Internal Auditor and provides International Management Standard Trainings.
LRQA was established in 1985 in response to the first quality standard, BS 5750, which was launched by the UK Government. LRQA was the first certification body to gain accreditation for issuing quality management system certificates and achieved this from the National Accreditation Council for Certification Bodies, now known as the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). LRQA now operate in most countries around the world. In Estonia the certification services were started in 1998.

The Nordic Ecolabelling
“The Nordic Ecolabel – competitive advantage with the help of ecolabel”
Born in the 16th November 1973 in Seinäjoki, Finland. Graduated from Turku School of Economics in 1999 as a master in business administration (marketing as a major subject). Studied in her graduate thesis for paper company StoraEnso how organizational buyers take consideration of the environmental aspects in the buying decisions. Since then worked several years in an IT software company Visma Software as a marketing manager. Since 2003 has worked in SFS-Ecolabelling as a marketing manager. SFS-Ecolabelling is a office for criteriawork, licensing and promoting two ecolabels in Finland; the Nordic Ecolabel (Swan) and European ecolabel (EU-Flower).
The Nordic Ecolabel is the official Ecolabel of the Nordic countries and was established in 1989 by the Nordic Council of Ministers with the purpose of providing an environmental labelling system that would contribute to a sustainable manufacturing and consumption. Each Nordic country has local offices with the responsibility for criteria development, control visits, licensing and marketing. In Finland the office is a part of the Finnish Standards Association (SFS).
